The Cheng Laboratory at Sun Yat-sen University School of Medicine (Shenzhen Campus) is focused on elucidating the fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying complex neurological and retinal degenerative diseases, with a strong emphasis on developing novel strategies for early diagnosis and therapeutic intervention. We investigate aberrant cellular signaling, immune dysregulation, and disruptions in organelle homeostasis (such as mitochondrial health) within critical pathological contexts affecting the mammalian brain and retina, paying particular attention to glial-neuronal interactions.Â
Our research integrates a multidisciplinary toolkit, drawing from advanced live-cell and super-resolution microscopy, sophisticated in vivo disease modeling, molecular and cellular biology, and multi-omics approaches (including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics) to drive discovery and validate new therapeutic targets.
